Manila, Philippines – In alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5), “Gender Equality,” Universidad De Manila (UDM) has reported a substantial proportion of female graduates across its academic programs in 2022. Out of a total of 2,587 graduates from various disciplines, including STEM, Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM), and Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS), 1,605 were female, highlighting UDM’s commitment to fostering gender equality in higher education.
The report shows that in STEM fields, traditionally underrepresented by women, 211 out of 426 graduates were female. In the ABM program, 498 out of 669 graduates were women. The HUMSS program saw an even greater representation, with 896 out of 1,492 graduates being female.
A Step Toward Gender Equality in Education
UDM’s efforts in promoting gender equality are evident in these numbers, reflecting the institution’s inclusive policies and its dedication to providing women with equal opportunities to succeed in various academic fields. This achievement underscores the university’s role in challenging gender norms, particularly in areas such as STEM, where women have historically been underrepresented.
UDM President Dr. Ma. Felma Carlos-Tria emphasized the importance of this achievement, stating, “The representation of women in these graduation statistics is a testament to UDM’s commitment to gender equality. We are proud of our female graduates who are breaking barriers and excelling in fields where they were once underrepresented.”
Empowering Women Across Disciplines
With 1,605 female graduates in 2022, UDM continues to empower women to pursue higher education in diverse fields, from science and technology to business and the humanities. These graduates are now equipped to contribute to their respective industries and society, reflecting UDM’s mission to promote both gender equality and academic excellence.
Looking Ahead: Continued Commitment to Gender Equality
As UDM continues to create opportunities for women across all disciplines, the university remains dedicated to advancing SDG 5. By supporting female students in achieving academic success and leadership in various fields, UDM is contributing to a more inclusive and equitable society.
