Beyond gender-awareness campaigns and community engagement, Universidad de Manila recognizes the importance of structured women’s mentoring schemes in advancing gender equality, leadership development, and equal educational opportunities.
An important institutional benchmark is the participation of at least 10% of the university’s female student population in women’s mentoring schemes. Such programs can provide opportunities for academic guidance, career development, leadership preparation, professional networking, and personal empowerment.
The university’s gender and development initiatives, including its participation in city-wide campaigns against violence toward women, provide opportunities to strengthen partnerships with government agencies, barangay organizations, community groups, and other institutions.
These partnerships can support the development of mentoring and empowerment activities that reach women and female students both within the university and in surrounding communities.
To demonstrate achievement of the 10% participation benchmark, UDM will need to document the number of female students formally participating in mentoring activities relative to its total female student enrollment.
Through sustained mentoring, inclusive educational opportunities, and community collaboration, UDM can further advance its commitment to SDG 5 – Gender Equality, ensuring that women are supported not only through advocacy but also through meaningful opportunities for academic, personal, and professional advancement.
