Manila, Philippines – In alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5) – “Gender Equality,” Universidad De Manila (UDM) has strengthened its commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment by implementing a policy that protects individuals who report discrimination from educational or employment disadvantages. This policy ensures that both students and staff are safeguarded when raising concerns about discriminatory practices.
The Student Affairs Office, led by the Dean of Student Affairs, provides a clear mechanism for students to file complaints related to discrimination. The guidelines are designed to ensure that students who come forward with reports are not subjected to retaliation or unfair treatment, allowing them to pursue their education without fear of disadvantage.
For employees, UDM’s Human Resource Department (HRD) has established protection measures for staff reporting discrimination. This framework ensures that employees who raise concerns are shielded from any negative employment repercussions, fostering a culture of transparency and fairness across the university.
UDM President Dr. Ma. Felma Carlos-Tria emphasized the importance of this policy, stating, “Our university is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment where discrimination is not tolerated. This policy is a crucial step in ensuring that individuals who speak out against inequality are protected and empowered.”
By implementing these protections, UDM reinforces its dedication to SDG 5, advancing gender equality and ensuring that all members of the university community can thrive in a safe, non-discriminatory environment.
