On November 6, 2023, the Universidad de Manila (UDM) launched a new Merit System aimed
at enhancing fairness and transparency in the recruitment, selection, and promotion of faculty
and administrative employees. Anchored in the principles of merit, competence, fitness, and
equality, this policy aligns with Civil Service standards and reinforces UDM’s commitment to
the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 8 (SDG 8), which focuses on promoting
decent work and economic growth.
A key feature of this policy is the employment practice appeal process, a crucial mechanism that
allows employees to challenge unfair decisions. By offering a transparent and accessible
platform for addressing grievances, UDM ensures that all employees are treated with fairness
and equity, fostering a supportive and valued professional environment.
UDM’s continuous monitoring and improvement of this process demonstrate its dedication to
creating a workplace where every employee has the opportunity to thrive.
