UDM Empowers First-Generation Female College Students: Paving the Way for Gender Equality

In the academic year 2022–2023, the Universidad de Manila (UDM) proudly recorded 204 female first–generation college students, highlighting the transformative power of education and the determination of these young women to break through barriers. Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5) – Gender Equality, this data reflects UDM’s ongoing commitment to empowering women through education, giving them the tools to forge new paths for themselves and their families.
Out of the 10,371 total enrollees for the academic year, 6,098 were female, showcasing a
significant proportion of women pursuing higher education at UDM. The 204 first–generation female students are not only the first in their families to enter college, but they also represent a growing wave of women who are breaking cycles of inequality, contributing to social and economic progress.
This milestone underscores the critical role that education plays in advancing gender equality and opening doors of opportunity for women from all walks of life. UDM remains dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where young women can achieve their academic and professional goals.
