In a remarkable achievement that highlights the success of Universidad De Manila’s (UDM) focus on employability and skills-based education, the university reported that 82% of its 2021 graduates have secured work placements lasting over a month within the last six months. This achievement reflects UDM’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 8 (SDG 8) – Decent Work and Economic Growth, by equipping students with the skills and opportunities necessary to thrive in the workforce.
Out of the 2,120 graduates in 2021, 1,760 students have already found work placements, demonstrating UDM’s strength in preparing graduates to meet the demands of today’s job market. This data was collected through UDM’s annual employability study, conducted by the university’s alumni office, which surveys recent graduates on their employment status and job readiness. The findings underscore UDM’s success in aligning its academic programs with industry needs, ensuring that graduates have the practical experience and confidence to excel in various professional environments.
A Commitment to Practical Training and Career Development
UDM’s programs emphasize internships, industry partnerships, and practical training to ensure that students graduate with relevant experience. The university has developed strong ties with businesses and organizations across sectors, providing students with opportunities for on-the-job training that extends beyond theoretical knowledge. UDM President Dr. Ma. Felma Carlos-Tria shared her pride in the graduates, stating, “Our commitment to employability is at the heart of UDM’s mission. By equipping students with hands-on experience and practical skills, we’re ensuring that they not only succeed in their careers but also contribute positively to the economic growth of our communities.”
Supporting Decent Work and Sustainable Growth
This high rate of employment among UDM graduates demonstrates the university’s role in promoting sustainable economic growth through workforce readiness, a core component of SDG 8. By producing job-ready graduates who quickly transition into the workforce, UDM is directly contributing to the growth of Manila’s economy and supporting national objectives for economic resilience and progress. UDM’s employability initiatives empower graduates to pursue careers that offer fair wages, job security, and opportunities for advancement, reinforcing the importance of decent work as a foundation for a thriving society.
Looking Ahead
With these strong employment outcomes, UDM remains committed to expanding career support and industry partnerships to meet the evolving needs of the job market. The university plans to further enhance its employability initiatives, ensuring that future graduates continue to excel in finding meaningful employment that supports both personal and economic growth.
