UDM Highlights Strong Female Academic Leadership, Wins Gawad Edukampyon Award for Gender and Capacity Development
May 4, 2024— Universidad De Manila, Philippines
The Universidad de Manila (UDM) proudly celebrates the significant presence of female
senior academics, enhancing gender diversity and representation within its academic
leadership. This balance, aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5) – Gender
Equality, brings diverse perspectives and experiences to the university’s decision–making
processes, promoting inclusivity and progress in academic governance.
In recognition of its commitment to gender equality, UDM was honored with the 2023
Gawad Edukampyon Award for Capacity Development – Highly Urbanized City Category.
The award, organized by the Center for Local Governance and Professional Development,
Inc. (CLGPD), was presented on May 4, 2024, at Novotel Manila, Quezon City. UDM’s
winning entry, the “UDM GAD Focal Point System: GAD Planning and Budgeting Seminar
Workshop,” exemplified its dedication to gender development and inclusive leadership.
The 3–day seminar workshop, facilitated by the city’s GAD Specialist Ms. Shiela A. Ferrer
and Dr. Malou T. Jarabe from the University of the Philippines, was attended by UDM’s
Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point System, academic, and administrative heads.
This workshop resulted in the implementation of gender–responsive policies, a gender–
inclusive workplace, and increased awareness of gender issues across the university.
UDM’s continued efforts, including annual seminar–orientations on Anti–Violence Against
Women law and gender–based violence, showcase its commitment to creating an
equitable and supportive academic community.
