March 16, 2024— Luneta Park, Manila, Philippines
On March 16, 2024, a remarkable event unfolded at Luneta Park, Manila, as 5,596 people, including 146 nursing students from the Universidad de Manila (UDM), gathered to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest human image of an organ. This event was part of the global celebration of World Tuberculosis (TB) Day, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) – Good Health and Well-being, and aimed to raise awareness about the ongoing fight against tuberculosis.
The record-breaking event was organized by various health advocacy groups, with significant participation from UDM’s Nursing Student Council, as well as first and second-year nursing students. Under the guidance of one CHS faculty member and one staff, the UDM participants joined thousands of others to form a giant, human-shaped lung—a symbol of the organ most affected by TB. This powerful visual statement emphasized the importance of lung health and the global effort to eradicate TB.
The event was not just about setting a world record; it was a bold demonstration of solidarity and commitment to public health. By participating in this initiative, UDM nursing students not only contributed to a historic achievement but also played a crucial role in spreading awareness about TB, a disease that continues to affect millions worldwide.
This celebration of World TB Day at Luneta Park underscores UDM’s dedication to public health education and its active involvement in global health campaigns. By aligning with SDG 3, UDM is reinforcing its commitment to producing healthcare professionals who are not only skilled but also deeply engaged in promoting health and well-being on a broader scale.
