On August 12, 2024, the Universidad de Manila (UDM) took a significant step toward
enhancing support for student–parents and faculty by signing a Memorandum of
Agreement (MOA) with Barangay 659–A Day Care Center. Held at the UDM Accreditation
Room, this partnership aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5) – Gender
Equality, specifically focusing on providing childcare facilities for students, staff, and
faculty.
The agreement was formalized in the presence of key figures including UDM President Dr.
Ma. Felma Carlos–Tria, Barangay Chairman Mr. Ronaldo Bunda, Vice President for
Academic Affairs Dr. Ronald Herrera, College of Education Dean Dr. Amalfi B. Tabin Jr.,
QUAD Director Dr. Rejan Tadeo, and GAD Focal Person Dr. Cecilia G. Carpo. The
partnership aims to address the childcare needs of parent–students and faculty members,
allowing them to balance their academic and professional responsibilities more
effectively.
This collaboration between UDM and Barangay 659–A is designed to provide parent–
students the opportunity to pursue higher education while their children are cared for and
learning in a nurturing environment. Additionally, faculty members will benefit from the
availability of daycare services, enhancing their overall well–being and productivity.
The initiative reinforces UDM’s commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive academic
environment that promotes gender equality by addressing the challenges faced by working
parents.
