Manila, Philippines – As part of its commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 1 (SDG 1), “No Poverty,“ Universidad De Manila (UDM) has taken a proactive stance in global policy making aimed at eradicating poverty. UDM President, Dr. Ma. Felma Carlos-Tria, represented the university at the Global Sustainable Development Congress held in Bangkok, Thailand, from June 10-13, 2024.
During the congress, Dr. Tria actively participated in the Global Sustainability Leaders Summit 2024, where key programs and policies aimed at ending poverty in all its dimensions were discussed. The summit brought together global thought leaders, policymakers, and advocates from various sectors to address pressing socio-economic challenges, including poverty eradication. UDM’s participation highlights its role not just as an educational institution but also as an advocate for broader societal change.
The Global Sustainability Leaders Summit served as a platform to share successful strategies, innovations, and policy frameworks that target poverty alleviation at local, regional, national, and global levels. Dr. Tria’s participation demonstrates UDM’s dedication to contributing to poverty reduction efforts beyond the academic realm, by engaging in discussions that shape future policies and programs designed to lift communities out of poverty.
UDM’s Commitment to Poverty Eradication
UDM’s involvement in global policy forums like the Global Sustainable Development Congress is a testament to the university’s commitment to SDG 1. By engaging in international dialogues, UDM is aligning its initiatives with global best practices and advocating for policies that address poverty at its core. This active participation positions UDM as a key player in the global fight against poverty, ensuring that its programs and strategies are informed by cutting-edge discussions and solutions.
The university has long been dedicated to poverty alleviation through its various local initiatives, such as providing financial aid, legal services, and food support for students from low-income families. However, UDM’s involvement in policy-making arenas shows that it is expanding its influence to help shape the broader framework for poverty eradication both in the Philippines and globally.
A Step Towards Global Impact
By participating in the Global Sustainability Leaders Summit, UDM is contributing to the development of actionable policies and programs that directly support SDG 1. This involvement ensures that the university not only educates students about poverty reduction but also plays a role in crafting the strategies and policies that will create a lasting impact on vulnerable populations worldwide.
As UDM continues to engage in such international efforts, it solidifies its reputation as an institution committed to social justice, economic equality, and the global effort to end poverty in all its dimensions.
