Universidad De Manila Provides Comprehensive Support for Low-Income Students, Advancing SDG 1

Manila, Philippines – In line with its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 1 (SDG 1), “No Poverty,“ Universidad De Manila (UDM) continues to empower low-income students by offering various forms of support that go beyond education, helping them complete their university studies successfully. The university, in collaboration with the City Government of Manila, is addressing the financial and legal needs of students from disadvantaged backgrounds through targeted assistance programs.

For the academic year, UDM has provided financial assistance of PHP 4,000 to students from low-income families to help cover essential educational costs, including internet access for online learning. This crucial support ensures that financial hardship does not hinder students’ ability to access digital resources and engage fully in their academic pursuits.

Beyond financial aid, UDM has partnered with the City Government of Manila and private sectors to organize the Soup Kitchen Program under the banner of UDM Cares. This initiative provides nutritious meals to students in need, helping alleviate food insecurity, which is a common challenge for students from low-income households. By ensuring that students receive proper nourishment, UDM helps them focus on their education without the added stress of hunger.

In addition to food and financial aid, UDM offers legal support services through the city’s Notary Services, facilitated by City Councils. This service ensures that students have access to necessary legal assistance, helping them navigate various legal requirements, including documentation related to their studies and personal affairs.
