Manila, Philippines – Universidad De Manila (UDM) continues to contribute to the nation’s education sector by producing a significant number of graduates qualified to teach at the primary school level. Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), “Quality Education,“ UDM has been actively developing future educators through its College of Education, ensuring a steady supply of well-trained teachers for primary education.
In the 2021-2022 academic year, UDM produced 273 graduates with qualifications that entitled them to teach at the primary school level. These graduates came from various education programs, including BSED-English (61 graduates), BSED-General Science (25 graduates), BSED-Math (23 graduates), BSED-Social Studies (49 graduates), and Bachelor of Physical Education (115 graduates).
For the 2022-2023 academic year, UDM saw a similar contribution, with 256 graduates obtaining qualifications to teach at the primary level. This group included 47 BSED-English graduates, 44 BSED-General Science graduates, 40 BSED-Math graduates, 46 BSED-Social Studies graduates, and 79 Bachelor of Physical Education graduates.
Supporting Quality Education Through Teacher Training
UDM’s consistent production of qualified educators reflects the university’s dedication to improving education at the grassroots level, a key focus of SDG 4. By equipping these graduates with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively teach primary school students, UDM is helping to ensure that children receive quality education, which is fundamental to their personal and academic development.
Dr. Ma. Felma Carlos-Tria, UDM President, highlighted the importance of these graduates, stating, “Teachers are the cornerstone of quality education. By producing well-trained and qualified educators, we are helping to shape the future of education in the Philippines and ensuring that the next generation of students receives the best possible start to their learning journey.”
A Focus on Primary Education
Primary education is a critical stage in a child’s development, and UDM’s focus on training teachers for this level ensures that students are guided by competent and passionate educators. The university’s comprehensive training programs in various disciplines, from English and Math to General Science and Physical Education, provide graduates with the tools they need to inspire and educate young minds.
A Path Toward SDG 4
By producing qualified teachers year after year, UDM is playing an active role in advancing SDG 4, which calls for inclusive and equitable quality education for all. These educators will go on to serve in primary schools across the country, ensuring that students from diverse backgrounds have access to quality education, setting them up for future success.
Looking Ahead
As UDM continues to prioritize the training of primary school teachers, the university remains committed to supporting national and global goals for education. With its dedicated approach to producing qualified educators, UDM is making significant strides toward creating a brighter and more educated future for all.
