Manila, Philippines – In a move aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), “Quality Education,“ Universidad De Manila (UDM) has successfully launched its lifelong learning program titled Associate in Barangay Governance. This program, spearheaded by UDM’s Institute of Graduate and Professional Studies, is designed to empower local barangay officials with the skills and knowledge needed to improve governance in their communities.
At its inaugural event, more than 30 barangay officials from the City of Manila graduated from the program, receiving their diplomas in recognition of their hard work and dedication. The program reflects UDM’s commitment to providing quality education and professional development opportunities, not just for traditional students but also for community leaders who play a critical role in local governance.
Lifelong Learning for Community Empowerment
The Associate in Barangay Governance program is part of UDM’s broader mission to promote lifelong learning, ensuring that public officials have access to education that enhances their leadership and decision-making capabilities. This initiative equips barangay officials with knowledge in areas such as public administration, governance, and community development, empowering them to lead with greater efficiency and accountability.
A Step Toward Quality Education for All
By providing this program, UDM is taking significant steps toward advancing SDG 4, which calls for inclusive and equitable quality education for all, regardless of age or position. The lifelong learning approach adopted by UDM ensures that education is accessible to individuals beyond traditional academic settings, promoting continuous professional growth and community development.
UDM President Dr. Ma. Felma Carlos-Tria emphasized the importance of the program, stating, “Lifelong learning is essential for community leaders to stay informed and adaptive. Through this program, we are not only educating individuals but also improving the quality of governance in our local communities.”
Expanding Educational Opportunities
This lifelong learning initiative reflects UDM’s dedication to creating educational programs that cater to diverse audiences. By offering specialized courses such as Associate in Barangay Governance, UDM opens the doors for community leaders to gain new skills and improve their professional practices, contributing to the overall development of Manila’s barangays.
Looking Ahead
With the success of its initial launch, UDM plans to expand the lifelong learning program to accommodate more barangay officials and other professionals in need of advanced governance training. As UDM continues to provide public events and educational resources for lifelong learning, the university remains committed to fostering an environment of continuous growth and development for all members of the community.
