Universidad de Manila has elevated its sustainability efforts by installing solar-powered lamps throughout its garden, bringing both beauty and environmental consciousness to the heart of the campus. This initiative, perfectly aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG 7): Affordable and Clean Energy, underscores the university’s dedication to reducing its carbon footprint and promoting green energy solutions.
The newly installed solar lamps, positioned along pathways and around key features of the garden, create a warm and welcoming ambiance at night, showcasing the university’s commitment to eco-friendly practices. Each lamp is equipped with solar panels that capture sunlight during the day, converting it into electricity and storing it for nighttime illumination. This innovative approach not only conserves energy but also highlights the aesthetic appeal of the campus garden.
“This project is a testament to our commitment to creating a sustainable campus environment,” said Engr. Jayson Valeroso, Head of the Maintenance and Engineering Department. “By utilizing solar energy, we are not only reducing our reliance on fossil fuels but also setting an example for our students and the wider community about the importance of embracing clean and renewable energy sources.”
The installation of these solar lamps is just one facet of Universidad de Manila’s broader sustainability agenda. The university is actively promoting energy conservation, reducing waste, and encouraging sustainable transportation, all part of a holistic approach to building a greener campus. These initiatives not only reduce the university’s environmental impact but also inspire the entire community to adopt more sustainable practices.
