In 2023, the Tara Basa Tutoring Program (TBTP) made significant strides in enhancing literacy among Filipino children, with 175 tutors and 36 Youth Development Workers (YDW) actively contributing to its success. By 2024, the program expanded further, with 310 tutors and 56 YDW participants. This growth highlights the increasing commitment of the Universidad de Manila (UDM) to addressing literacy challenges in the country.
As part of its ongoing support for the Tara Basa Program, UDM proudly participated in the 2024 Culminating Activity organized by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) National Capital Region (NCR). Held at the Great Eastern Hotel in Quezon City, this event celebrated the program’s achievements and its impact on improving reading skills among Filipino children.
UDM’s contributions were showcased through the participation of tutors such as Tracy Dre Torres, Ashley Rafacon, and Michael Gonzaga, alongside focal person Mr. Rudi Martinez, from the College of Education. Their presence underscored the vital role UDM has played in the program’s success. In addition, the involvement of UDM’s Youth Development Workers further emphasized the university’s dedication to community development and education.
