November 28, 2023— UDM Main Campus, Manila, Philippines
On November 28, 2023, the Universidad de Manila (UDM) demonstrated its unwavering commitment to community service and poverty alleviation through its “UDM Cares” Soup Kitchen Pantry. Held at the UDM Main Campus, this initiative is closely aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 1 (SDG 1) – No Poverty, as it provided essential nourishment to underserved populations while fostering a sense of unity among students, faculty, and the broader community.
The event saw the participation of 700 students from both the Senior High School and College levels, alongside UDM’s dedicated faculty and administration. University Registrar Loida J. Primavera, University President Dr. Ma. Felma Carlos-Tria, and NSTP Director Alistair B. Selorio were key figures in the event, supported by a team of 25 committee members, including volunteers from the Community Service Foundation (CSF).
More than just a meal service, the Soup Kitchen Pantry exemplified UDM’s ethos of compassion and social responsibility. It provided an opportunity for students to engage directly with the community, offering not just food, but also a sense of warmth and connection to those in need. The event underscored the importance of community outreach in fostering solidarity and empathy, core values that UDM seeks to instill in its students.
As UDM continues to engage in such meaningful initiatives, it remains a beacon of hope and a powerful force for positive change in Manila, reinforcing its role in the fight against poverty.
