In celebration of International Women’s Month 2025, the Universidad de Manila (UDM) held a vibrant and empowering Gender and Development (GAD) activity at the UDM Lobby on March 3, 2025. The event, themed “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas”, resonated deeply with the university community as it reinforced the crucial role of women in shaping a progressive and inclusive society.
The highlight of the gathering was the inspirational speech of UDM President Ma. Felma Carlos-Tria, who delivered a rousing call to action under the event’s battle cry:
“We Dance, We Rise, and We Take Action United for Women’s Rights & Gender Equality Towards Magnificent Manila.”
Celebrating Strength, Resilience, and Action
In her speech, President Carlos-Tria emphasized that the celebration of International Women’s Month is more than just an event—it is a movement. She spoke about the significance of the three powerful actions:
We Dance – A symbol of resilience and joy, honoring the strength of the Filipina. The President reminded everyone that Filipinas have always been leaders, warriors, and nurturers who have moved history forward.
We Rise – A reminder that progress for women translates to progress for all. When women are uplifted, communities thrive, and societies grow stronger. She encouraged every individual to support and empower women in all spaces—at home, in the workplace, and in leadership roles.
We Take Action – The most crucial step in achieving gender equality and justice. President Carlos-Tria urged everyone not just to speak about equality but to act on it. This means advocating for policies that protect women’s rights, ensuring access to education and economic opportunities, and dismantling barriers that hinder women’s progress.
A Unified Step Towards Magnificent Manila
The event reaffirmed UDM’s commitment to championing gender equality and women’s empowerment as part of its larger vision of building a more inclusive and progressive Manila. Through collective action, the university aims to foster a society where women are empowered to lead, inspire, and break new ground.
As the celebration of International Women’s Month 2025 continues, UDM remains steadfast in its mission to empower women in all sectors, ensuring that they rise together towards a stronger, fairer, and more inclusive future.
Together, we dance, we rise, and we take action—towards a Magnificent Manila!
