UDM President Felma Carlos-Tria Makes History as First Filipina Speaker at World Women University Presidents Forum

Manila, Philippines — The local government of Manila has proudly recognized the remarkable achievement of Universidad de Manila (UDM) President, Dr. Felma Carlos-Tria, as she became the first Filipina to represent the Philippines at the prestigious 11th World Women University Presidents Forum in China. This significant milestone underscores UDM’s growing reputation in the global academic community. 

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna expressed her admiration for Dr. Tria’s historic participation, emphasizing how UDM’s accomplishments have elevated it to a level comparable to private universities. UDM, a public institution operated by the Manila city government, continues to provide free tuition to deserving students, embodying its commitment to accessible education. 

The forum, held at Huanghe Science and Technology University in Zhengzhou, China, centered around the theme “Multicultural Backgrounds and Common Development: The Responsibility of Higher Education Leaders.” It brought together over 200 representatives from 60 countries and regions, creating a vibrant platform for global exchange and collaboration. 

Key discussions during the forum revolved around five critical sub-topics: the openness of higher education, shared visions in humanities education, the evolution of intelligent societies and educational formats, the exchange of educational experiences, and the fostering of female leadership in multicultural settings. Dr. Tria’s participation in these discussions not only highlighted UDM’s achievements but also placed the Philippines on the global stage in the realm of higher education leadership. 

Mayor Lacuna lauded the forum as a testament to UDM’s growing influence and the significant role it plays in shaping the future of education. “Dr. Tria’s participation is a reflection of UDM’s dedication to excellence and its commitment to providing quality education to the youth of Manila,” she said.
