June 3, 2024 — The local government of Manila has proudly acknowledged the remarkable achievement of Universidad de Manila (UdM) President Felma Carlos-Tria, who was recently invited to speak at the prestigious 11th World Women University Presidents Forum in China. Tria’s participation marks a historic moment as she becomes the first Filipina delegate to represent the Philippines in the forum’s history.
Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna praised Tria’s significant role at the forum, emphasizing UdM’s rising reputation, now comparable to that of private universities. UdM, a public institution managed by the Manila city government, continues to provide free tuition to deserving students, reinforcing its commitment to accessible education.
The forum, held at Huanghe S&T University in Zhengzhou, China, revolved around the theme “Multicultural Backgrounds and Common Development: The Responsibility of Higher Education Leaders.” The event saw the participation of over 200 representatives from 60 countries and regions, fostering a global exchange of ideas and strategies.
Key discussions at the forum focused on five critical areas: the openness of higher education, shared visions in humanities education, the evolution of intelligent societies and educational formats, the exchange of educational experiences, and the promotion of female leadership in multicultural environments.
This international recognition of President Tria’s contributions underscores UdM’s growing influence in the global academic community, further establishing the university’s reputation for excellence.
