On July 3, 2022, the Universidad de Manila (UDM) launched its Community Engagement Mentorship Program, bringing together students, faculty, and local volunteers in a collaborative effort to uplift communities in Manila. This initiative, aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 1 (SDG 1) – No Poverty, focuses on providing practical skills, knowledge sharing, and capacity-building to residents of local barangays, empowering them to improve their socio-economic conditions.
Students from the College of Health Sciences (CHS), alongside faculty members and barangay volunteers, conducted workshops and hands-on activities in various fields such as technology, entrepreneurship, social work, and environmental sustainability. These sessions were designed to enhance the academic and professional skills of UDM students while making a positive impact on the lives of barangay residents.
The mentorship program fosters a spirit of teamwork, leadership, and civic engagement, giving students the opportunity to serve as change-makers in their local communities. By offering real-world solutions to local challenges, UDM continues to build strong partnerships with communities, contributing to the reduction of poverty through education and skill development.

This kind of community engagement is exactly what we need to reduce poverty and create lasting change. Kudos to UDM for making a real difference.
The focus on real-world solutions is commendable, as it aligns educational efforts with the pressing needs of the community. This hands-on approach not only enhances students’ learning experiences but also contributes significantly to poverty reduction through education and skill development.
