June 15, 2024— Universidad De Manila, Philippines
On June 15, 2024, the Universidad de Manila (UDM) took a significant step towards
promoting public health and well–being by hosting a comprehensive Health Education and
Smoking Cessation program at the UDM Lobby. This initiative, aligned with Sustainable
Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) – Good Health and Well–being, aimed to educate the
university community about the detrimental effects of smoking and to support individuals
in their journey towards quitting.
The event was organized by the UDM Clinic and involved the participation of eight clinic
staff members, 50 UDM employees, 20 nursing students, and 100 college students. The
program provided attendees with updated information on the harmful impacts of smoking
on both health and the environment. Through interactive sessions and informative
presentations, participants were encouraged to understand the risks associated with
smoking and were given resources and support to help them quit.
This initiative is part of UDM’s broader commitment to fostering a healthy campus
environment and promoting the well–being of its students, staff, and faculty. By addressing
the issue of smoking, UDM is actively contributing to the reduction of health risks
associated with tobacco use, thereby supporting the overall health of the university
community.
The Health Education and Smoking Cessation program is a clear example of how UDM is
aligning its efforts with global health goals, ensuring that its community members are
informed and empowered to make healthier lifestyle choices. This event not only raises
awareness about the dangers of smoking but also reinforces the university’s role in
advocating for public health and well–being.
