Universidad De Manila (UDM) and SM Store teamed up for a significant environmental and educational initiative, marked by a Tree Planting and Donate-a-Book turnover ceremony at Mehan Garden. The event saw the planting of 89 herbs, including basil, coriander, dill, peppermint, and Italian oregano, by SM volunteers and UDM representatives.
UDM President Dr. Ma. Felma Carlos-Tria expressed her pride in participating in this green campaign, emphasizing the university’s commitment to environmental sustainability. “We advocate for a community that protects the well-being of people and makes this world a happier and greener place to be in,” Dr. Carlos-Tria stated. She further highlighted the symbolism of green in the university’s colors, reflecting UDM’s dedication to improving the environment.
Cathy S. Ileto, SM Retail Vice President for Corporate Communications, also conveyed her enthusiasm about partnering with UDM. She commended the SM Store Manila and SM Store Quiapo employees who volunteered their time for the cause. “This is just the start of many Give Back Days in the years to come, and SM will remain a platform where employees, customers, and communities come together to give back,” Ileto affirmed.
The event also featured the donation of 333 old textbooks and references, along with 1,774 notebooks and other educational materials from SM Manila and SM Quiapo employees and customers to UDM, further strengthening the partnership between the university and SM Store in fostering both environmental stewardship and educational support.
