Faculty Research Colloquium Explores Innovations in Criminal Justice Research

Manila, Philippines – The Universidad de Manila (UDM) College of Criminal Justice hosted a successful Faculty Research Colloquium on September 30, 2022, under the theme “Beyond Traditional Criminal Justice Research in the Emerging Era.” The event brought together faculty members to present groundbreaking studies aimed at advancing the field of criminal justice.
The colloquium began with an inspiring message from Dr. Yolanda Lira, Dean of the College of Criminal Justice, who highlighted the importance of research in redefining approaches to criminal justice in a rapidly evolving society. “This event underscores our commitment to advancing knowledge and innovation in addressing the complexities of modern criminal justice,” Dr. Lira remarked.
Three distinguished faculty members presented their research during the program:
Prof. Jopher Nazario presented his study, “Attitude and Motivation in Conducting Research Among Faculty of Universidad de Manila College of Criminal Justice,” which delved into the factors influencing faculty members’ engagement and productivity in research activities.
Prof. Bema Fulgencio-Obias shared her study, “Surprised Police Field Inspection: A Management Practice for Motivation Among Police Personnel,” which explored how unannounced inspections can serve as an effective motivational tool for improving police performance and accountability.
Dr. Rizalino D. Flores III presented his study titled “The Efficiency of Clean Rider Campaign of the Philippine National Police Against Motorcycle Riding Criminals (Riding in Tandem),” which evaluates the campaign’s effectiveness in deterring motorcycle-related crimes. His research highlights the strategic measures implemented and their impact on enhancing public safety and security.
The panel of reactors featured esteemed university research coordinators Dr. Silvia Ambag and Dr. Joseph Mercado, who provided insightful critiques and valuable feedback on the presented studies. Their expert commentary encouraged further refinement and practical applications of the research findings.
The event concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Rodolfo Castillo Jr., Faculty Regent, who praised the presenters for their scholarly contributions and urged faculty members to continue pursuing research that addresses societal needs. “Let us always strive to innovate and elevate our standards as we shape the future of criminal justice education and practice,” Dr. Castillo emphasized.
This colloquium not only showcased the university’s commitment to research excellence but also fostered collaboration and intellectual exchange among the faculty, reinforcing UDM’s role as a hub for academic innovation in criminal justice.
