Enhancing School Security Through a Validated Mindfulness Program for School-Based Security Guards
By: Dr. Leila R. Gano
A study by Dr. Leila R. Gano, Prof. Engelbert M. Yalong, and Mr. Leonard Valdez developed and validated a mindfulness program specifically designed for school-based security guards, emphasizing their crucial yet often neglected mental health needs. The research utilized a Theory-Based Evaluation (TBE) framework to address stress management, emotional regulation, and situational awareness among security personnel. The mindfulness program underwent rigorous validation by an expert panel comprising security specialists, educators, and mental health practitioners. Using structured validity questionnaires, the panel strongly endorsed the program’s theoretical foundation, practical applicability, relevance, and suitability to the school security context. The findings indicated unanimous agreement on key indicators, confirming the effectiveness and appropriateness of the mindfulness interventions proposed. Consequently, the validated mindfulness program is recommended for implementation within school security environments, promising enhanced job performance and improved mental well-being among guards. This research significantly contributes to workplace mindfulness literature and underscores the necessity of addressing mental health and emotional resilience among security personnel. Future studies are encouraged to focus on program implementation, examining long-term outcomes and benefits to the educational community and school safety.
