From December 11 to 14, 2024, the Universidad de Manila (UDM) campus hosted the successful distribution of Social Amelioration Program (SAP) aid for the 1st Semester of Academic Year 2024-2025. This initiative, in line with City Ordinance No. 8568, provided financial assistance to 10,375 undergraduate students across UDM’s six colleges: the College of Engineering, College of Business Administration, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Criminal Justice, College of Health Sciences, and College of Education. The event exemplified the commitment of the City Government of Manila and UDM to fostering equitable access to education for socio-economically disadvantaged students.
The distribution was led by the Office of the Vice President for Comptrollership, headed by Vice President Jeffrey F. Litan, in collaboration with the Office of the Registrar, led by Ms. Loida J. Primavera. Each eligible student received a monthly allowance of PHP 1,000, alleviating financial burdens and enabling them to focus on their academic pursuits. To qualify for the program, students must be bonafide residents of Manila, verified through a Certificate of Indigency, maintain good academic standing, and meet voter registration requirements, either personally or through their parents.
This initiative directly contributes to global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). By addressing financial challenges, the SAP distribution enhances students’ access to quality education and promotes academic retention and success. The collaboration between UDM and the City Government of Manila underscores the importance of partnerships in achieving meaningful societal impact. The program continues to empower students, reduce poverty, and strengthen the foundation for a brighter, more equitable future for Manila’s youth.
