University Research Center Hosts Seminar-Workshop for UDM Community
On August 18, 2022, the University Research Center (URC) at Universidad de Manila (UDM) held a Seminar-Workshop aimed at fostering a culture of research excellence across the university community. The event, which took place from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the University Library, was open to all members of the UDM community and focused on aligning research initiatives with institutional goals and addressing areas for improvement identified through external evaluations.
The seminar began with Opening Remarks delivered by Dr. Ronald A. Herrera, Vice President for Academic Affairs, who emphasized the significance of research in enhancing academic quality and institutional growth. Following this, Dr. Leny Dellosa, University Researcher, presented the Statement of Objectives, highlighting the seminar’s focus on addressing research challenges, sharing insights from external evaluations, and planning actionable steps for improvement.
Dr. Mark Antony Pelegrin, another University Researcher, facilitated the Presentation of UDM College Representatives, showcasing the diverse research contributions from each college and their alignment with UDM’s vision and mission.
A key segment of the seminar was the ALCUCOA Findings and Recommendations presentation, led by the university’s research experts. This session detailed the results of the recent Association of Local Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (ALCUCOA) evaluations, focusing on strengths and areas for improvement across various colleges:
- Dr. Joseph Mercado presented findings for the College of Criminal Justice and College of Arts and Sciences.
- Dr. Silvia Ambag covered the College of Business Administration and College of Engineering.
- Dr. Racidon P. Bernarte shared recommendations for the College of Health & Sciences and College of Education.
The session provided valuable insights for each college to enhance their research programs, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards and institutional priorities.
The seminar concluded with the presentation of the Research Plan of Action by Dr. Leila R. Gano, Director of the URC. Dr. Gano outlined actionable steps for achieving research excellence, emphasizing collaboration, capacity-building, and strategic alignment with national and global research priorities. In her Closing Remarks, she expressed gratitude to all participants and reiterated UDM’s commitment to fostering a vibrant research culture that contributes to societal development.
