Manila, Philippines – In alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3), “Good Health and Well-being,“ Universidad De Manila (UDM) has introduced a new mental health support program titled “Health Care for All.” This initiative, spearheaded by UDM’s College of Health Sciences in collaboration with the Medical Unit and Guidance Counseling Office, is designed to provide essential mental health services for both university personnel and students.
The Health Care for All program offers free medical assessments, counseling sessions led by mental health professionals, and additional activities aimed at promoting emotional and psychological well-being. The program reflects UDM’s commitment to fostering a supportive and healthy environment, recognizing the growing importance of mental health in both academic and professional settings.
Supporting Mental Health for a Thriving Community
UDM President Dr. Ma. Felma Carlos-Tria emphasized the significance of the program, stating, “Mental health is a crucial component of overall well-being. By offering these services to our staff and students, we aim to create a safe and supportive environment where everyone feels cared for and empowered to seek help when needed.”
The Health Care for All initiative also includes workshops and wellness activities aimed at stress management and building resilience, ensuring that the UDM community has the tools and resources to maintain mental wellness. The program reflects the university’s broader mission to ensure that mental health is treated with the same importance as physical health, in line with global standards of well-being.
Aligning with SDG 3: Promoting Good Health and Well-being
By providing accessible mental health support, UDM is taking a proactive role in advancing SDG 3, which focuses on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all. The program’s emphasis on mental health underscores the university’s recognition of the challenges faced by students and staff in managing stress, anxiety, and other mental health concerns, particularly in the face of the demands of modern life.
Through its partnership with the Medical Unit and Guidance Counseling Office, UDM ensures that both staff and students have access to professional mental health care, creating a stronger, more resilient university community.
Moving Forward
The Health Care for All program is a testament to UDM’s commitment to the overall well-being of its community. As mental health continues to be a priority in global health discussions, UDM’s initiative positions the university as a leader in providing comprehensive health services, ensuring that its personnel and students thrive both mentally and physically.
