On February 29, 2024, the Universidad de Manila (UDM) took a proactive step in promoting
public health by conducting a Dental Awareness Seminar across its Main and Annex
campuses. This initiative, aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) – Good
Health and Well–being, aimed to enhance dental health awareness among all university
students, emphasizing the importance of oral hygiene in preventing dental diseases and
reducing the risk of related complications.
Led by five dedicated University Clinic staff members, the seminar was delivered in every
classroom throughout the campus, ensuring that all students received crucial information
on maintaining good dental health. The program focused on educating students about the
best practices for oral hygiene, the significance of regular dental check–ups, and the
prevention of common dental issues such as cavities and gum disease.
The Dental Awareness Seminar is part of UDM’s broader commitment to fostering a
healthy campus environment. By emphasizing the importance of oral health, UDM is not
only addressing an essential aspect of overall well–being but also empowering students
with the knowledge to take charge of their health.
This campus–wide initiative highlights UDM’s dedication to providing holistic health
education, ensuring that students are well–informed about various aspects of their health,
including the often–overlooked area of dental care. The university’s efforts to reduce the
incidence of dental diseases contribute to the larger goal of promoting good health and
well–being for all members of its community.
