On March 24, 2024, the Universidad de Manila (UDM), in collaboration with the Service
Heart Organization and San Lazaro Hospital, hosted a Mobile Blood Donation drive at the
UDM Lobby. Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) – Good Health and
Well–being, this initiative aimed to increase the availability of blood supply for patients in
need of urgent transfusions, contributing directly to saving lives.
The event saw participation from a variety of stakeholders, including personnel from San
Lazaro Hospital, the Tau Gamma Phi Alumni Incorporated, and dedicated students from
the CHS–Nursing Student Council and the CHS–Student Council. This collective effort
underscored the importance of community engagement in healthcare and the critical role
that blood donation plays in supporting medical emergencies.
Organized by the Service Heart Organization, the blood drive aimed to raise awareness of
the ongoing need for blood donations, especially for patients facing life–threatening
conditions. With the support of UDM’s nursing and health sciences students, the drive not
only collected vital blood supplies but also fostered a culture of health advocacy and
volunteerism among students and participants.
This Mobile Blood Donation drive is a testament to UDM’s commitment to public health,
reinforcing the university’s role in promoting well–being and ensuring that healthcare
services, such as blood transfusions, are readily available to those in need.
