May 27, 2024— UDM Palma Hall, Manila, Philippines
On May 27, 2024, the Universidad de Manila (UDM) held a moving and symbolic event at
Palma Hall—the Capping, Pinning, and Candle Lighting Ceremony for 162 Level II Nursing
students. This traditional ceremony, organized by the UDM Nursing Student Council,
marks a pivotal milestone in the journey of these aspiring healthcare professionals,
aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) – Good Health and Well–being.
The event was attended by seven full–time College of Health Sciences (CHS) faculty
members, 21 part–time nursing faculty, and 170 proud parents and guests. As each
student received their nursing cap and pin, and lit their candle, the ceremony underscored
the values of compassion, dedication, and commitment that are at the heart of the nursing
profession.
The Capping, Pinning, and Candle Lighting Ceremony is more than a rite of passage; it is a
reaffirmation of the UDM nursing community’s dedication to nurturing the next generation
of healthcare leaders. These students are being equipped with the knowledge, skills, and
empathy necessary to make a positive impact on the health and well–being of individuals
and communities.
This event highlights UDM’s ongoing commitment to producing healthcare professionals
who are not only technically proficient but also deeply compassionate. As these nursing
students continue their education and training, they carry with them the responsibility to
uphold the highest standards of care, embodying the essence of SDG 3 in their future
careers.
