On July 3, 2024, the Universidad de Manila (UDM) took another meaningful step towards poverty alleviation by hosting its Community Engagement and Upskill Workshop in collaboration with local barangay residents and volunteers. This initiative, which aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 1 (SDG 1) – No Poverty, focused on providing hands-on learning, collaboration, and personal growth opportunities for participants, empowering them to develop practical skills and explore their passions.
Led by UDM’s General Education (GEN ED) faculty, the workshops covered a wide range of topics, including creative arts, technology, entrepreneurship, leadership, and social advocacy. These interactive sessions allowed participants to gain real-world skills while working together to solve local challenges. The initiative not only promoted continuous learning but also fostered a sense of community and cooperation, as barangay residents, volunteers, and UDM participants shared knowledge and built networks.
This workshop is a testament to UDM’s commitment to empowering communities and fostering innovation through education. By engaging with local communities, UDM is helping to create sustainable pathways out of poverty and promoting a culture of lifelong learning.
