UDM Distributes Social Amelioration Aid to Over 10,000 Students: A Step TowardsPoverty Alleviation
June 21, 2024— Universidad de Manila, Manila, Philippines
From June 18 to 21, 2024, the Universidad de Manila (UDM) once again demonstrated its
commitment to supporting its students through the Social Amelioration Program (SAP)
distribution held at the UDM Main Campus. This initiative, which aligns with Sustainable
Development Goal 1 (SDG 1) – No Poverty, provided crucial financial aid to 9,826 college
students and 654 senior high school students, helping them overcome financial
challenges and focus on their academic success.
The SAP distribution, conducted under Manila City Ordinance 8568, was meticulously
organized by a dedicated committee of 33 members, including paymasters led by Prof.
Loida J. Primavera. The process involved a thorough verification to ensure that all
recipients met the required criteria, ensuring transparency and fairness in the distribution
of funds.
In addition to receiving their financial support, students had access to informational
booths offering advice on various university support services. This holistic approach not
only addressed the immediate financial needs of the students but also provided them with
resources to support their overall well-being and academic journey.
This event is a clear demonstration of UDM’s dedication to the welfare of its students,
ensuring that financial hardships do not hinder their educational aspirations. By providing
this much-needed support, UDM is playing a vital role in the fight against poverty, making a
lasting impact on the lives of its students and contributing to the broader goal of poverty
reduction in Manila.
