On April 19, 2024, the Universidad de Manila (UDM) made a significant impact on the Sta.
Ana community with its Community Health Program, aligning with Sustainable
Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) – Good Health and Well–being. The event, held at Barangay
790, Sta. Ana, Manila, was a testament to UDM’s commitment to enhancing public health
and well–being through education, community engagement, and accessible healthcare
services.
The Health Promotion Program, themed “Health Care for All,” was spearheaded by the
UDM Nursing Student Council, with leadership from Dr. Felicitas F. Hubbard and College
of Health Sciences (CHS) Dean Dr. Rhodora Bernal. Supported by seven full–time CHS
faculty members, one staff member, and a dedicated group of 50 nursing students and 50
physical therapy students, the event provided essential health services to the local
community.
In collaboration with the Philippine Cancer Society, the program offered free fluoride
applications, pap smears, and breast examinations, ensuring that vital health services
were accessible to all residents. Additionally, nursing and physical therapy students
delivered health lectures and facilitated activities aimed at educating the community on
various health topics. The event was further supported by various student councils, who
played a key role in coordinating services and engaging with the community.
This initiative highlights UDM’s proactive approach to public health, addressing the needs
of vulnerable populations while fostering a culture of health awareness and prevention. By
bringing healthcare services directly to the community, UDM is not only improving health
outcomes but also empowering individuals with the knowledge and resources to maintain
their well–being.
The UDM Community Health Program exemplifies the university’s dedication to social
responsibility and its mission to contribute to the overall well–being of the communities it
serves. Through these efforts, UDM is making a meaningful contribution to the global goal
of ensuring healthy lives and promoting well–being for all.
