BAGUIO CITY, November 14-16, 2024 — The Universidad de Manila (UDM) successfully conducted its Management Development Planning (MDP) seminar for the academic year 2024-2025 at Venus Parkview Hotel. Themed “Synergy Towards a Future-Ready UDM,” the three-day event brought together 60 academic and administrative leaders to foster collaboration and strategic planning for institutional growth.
The seminar began with a journey from Manila to Baguio in the early hours of November 14, signaling the beginning of an intensive program aimed at aligning the university’s vision with future challenges. Dr. Ma serves as President of UDM. Felma Carlos-Tria delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing the importance of synergy and innovation in meeting the university’s goals.

Dr. Ronald A. Herrera, Vice President for Academic Affairs, provided an orientation and overview of the training, setting the tone for the first day’s activities, which included a Vision Board workshop, team-building exercises, and a World Café session, led by Ms. Venerandia Geronimo.
On Day 2, the participants engaged in intensive sessions, beginning with a discussion of Dr. Rejan Tadeo’s Strategic Performance Management System (SPMS) framework. A session on customer complaint procedures followed, encouraging interactive dialogue and hands-on learning to improve service quality. The afternoon was reserved for writing workshops and Key Result Area (KRA) presentations from various university offices.
The plenary session, in which UDM officials, including President Carlos-Tria and university vice presidents, critiqued the presentations, was the program’s high point. Their feedback provided valuable insights and strategic recommendations for improving operational efficiencies and aligning office functions with UDM’s long-term vision.

Day 3 included sectoral evaluations led by UDM vice presidents. Each sector—Academic Affairs, Administration, Controllership, and Student Services—described its accomplishments, challenges, and potential future strategies. The sessions were marked by constructive discussions, with senior officials making recommendations to improve the offices’ ability to meet the demands of a forward-thinking institution.
The seminar ended with a Pledge of Commitment ceremony and closing remarks from Vice President for Administration, Mr. Manfredo A. Marcellano. He emphasized the university leaders’ shared determination to put plans into action for the benefit of the UDM community.
The MDP seminar, organized by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the University Research Extension, Linkages, and International Affairs, and the Vice President for Administration, reinforced UDM’s commitment to professional development.
