Manila, Philippines – The College of Criminal Justice at the Universidad de Manila (UDM) successfully hosted the Research and Colloquium: A Poster Presentation of Criminological Research Studies and Students’ The Lens Journal, which displayed criminology students’ remarkable research initiatives.
Dr. Ma, President of UDM, opened the event with inspiring welcome remarks. Felma Carlos-Tria emphasized the university’s dedication to fostering research excellence and empowering students to contribute in academic and professional fields. “This event emphasizes the critical role of research in shaping innovative solutions to real-world problems, particularly in criminology and justice,” said Dr. Carlos-Tria.
The poster presentation, in which students displayed their research projects on current issues in criminology, law enforcement, and community safety, was a major highlight of the colloquium.
Dr. Silvia Ambag and Dr. Joseph Mercado, Research Coordinators of the University Research Center, served as a distinguished panelist and reactor for the paper presentations, providing expert insights and feedback. Dr. Ambag, who has extensive experience in education, research, and extension services, praised the students for their hard work and academic achievements. In addition, Dr. Mercado also provided constructive feedback, encouraging the researchers to improve their work for potential publication and practical application.
The event also celebrated The Lens Journal, a student-run publication that allows criminology students to highlight their academic work and creative outputs. The journal aims to amplify students’ voices and encourage scholarly engagement within the university and beyond.
The colloquium concluded with an interactive Q&A session, which allowed students to further engage with the panel and attendees, fostering a vibrant culture of academic discourse.
This initiative, spearheaded by the College of Criminal Justice, demonstrates UDM’s commitment to promoting student-led research and developing future criminologists.
