CHS Community Pantry Promotes Eye Health and Nutrition in Celebration of Sight Saving Month
On August 14, 2025, the College of Health Sciences (CHS) of Universidad De Manila hosted the CHS Community Pantry at the UDM Lobby, merging health advocacy with direct community support as part of the nationwide observance of Sight Saving Month.
Organized through the UDM C.A.R.E.S platform, the initiative brought together CHS Nursing and Physical Therapy faculty and staff, along with 30 dedicated Student Council members, who provided a wide selection of nutritious food items to students and campus personnel. Beyond offering nourishment, the pantry promoted eye health awareness, reminding the community that nutrition plays a vital role in preserving vision and preventing lifestyle-related visual impairments.
The event aligned strongly with SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being, addressing both immediate hunger and long-term preventive healthcare. By integrating food security, health education, and community service into a single activity, UDM showcased how a simple pantry can serve as a platform for medical advocacy and social responsibility.
More than distribution, the CHS Community Pantry became a symbol of unity and collective care, emphasizing that in UDM, well-being is a shared duty — whether through clinical service, nutrition support, or everyday acts of empathy.
