UDM Nursing Students Bring Community Health Advocacy to Sta. Ana Through CHS Community Health Program
On March 6, 2025, the College of Health Sciences (CHS) of Universidad De Manila extended its health advocacy beyond the classroom through the CHS Community Health Program held at Barangay 790, Zone 86, Sta. Ana, Manila. The activity, guided by the theme “Healthy Habitat: Sustainable Community Solutions for Vector and Domestic Animal Management,” aimed to address pressing public health risks linked to sanitation, pest control, and household animal care.
The initiative was spearheaded by CHS Faculty and Staff, with active participation from the CHS Student Council, 15 Nursing Students, and supportive nursing alumni. Together, they conducted health education sessions, environmental awareness discussions, and practical demonstrations to equip residents with preventive strategies against vector-borne diseases such as dengue and leptospirosis—both of which disproportionately affect low-income urban communities.
This outreach is a direct contribution to SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being, as it promotes preventive healthcare and empowers residents to maintain safer living environments. By introducing sustainable and locally applicable measures, the program reinforced that long-term public health improvement begins at the household and barangay level.
The CHS Community Health Program stood as a testament to UDM’s commitment to community-based healthcare development, where nursing students learn not only to treat illness, but to prevent it through education, empathy, and sustained engagement.
