Fair Compensation for Faculty and Staff
By: Ms. Lorena Victorio
Effective September 1, 2025, the Universidad de Manila (UDM) implements the National Budget Circular No. 597, which enforces the second tranche of salary adjustments under the Salary Standardization Law V (SSL V). This initiative is part of the government’s continuous effort to align public sector compensation with market standards, ensuring that faculty and staff receive fair and competitive pay. By adopting this policy, UDM upholds its commitment to the principle of a living wage, guaranteeing that all employees earn at least the local living wage or the local financial poverty indicator for a family of four.
Aligned with SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, this policy not only strengthens economic stability among employees but also fosters motivation, equity, and productivity within the university community. UDM’s proactive implementation reflects its dedication to sustainable and inclusive growth through fair employment practices.
