
UDM Women Lead Community Collaboration Through the “Tara, Basa!” Tutoring Program

In support of SDG 4 – Quality Education and SDG 5 – Gender Equality, the Universidad De Manila (UDM) continues to champion women’s active participation in education-based outreach through community collaboration programs such as the “Tara, Basa!” Tutoring Program is annual program headed by the College of Education. Last May 19, 2025 the session health in Librada Avelino Elementary School in Pagasa St. Tondo, Manila, followed by May 20,2025 in Emilio Jacinto Elementary School at Velasquez St. Tondo Mania and lastly in Mariano Ponce Elementary School.
Led by female faculty members and education students, the initiative reflects UDM’s commitment to extending learning beyond the classroom by partnering with local barangays, community groups, government agencies, and other universities. This collaborative effort provides free tutoring sessions for children and youth in Manila, focusing on literacy, reading comprehension, and academic support.
Through the program, women mentors and volunteers play a pivotal role in nurturing young learners’ potential while fostering a culture of compassion, inclusion, and social responsibility. The outreach not only strengthens the literacy foundation of participating students but also empowers women to become leaders and advocates for equitable access to education.
The “Tara, Basa!” Tutoring Program exemplifies UDM’s belief that empowering women to serve their communities creates a ripple effect of learning and empowerment—bridging gaps, inspiring young minds, and building a more educated and inclusive society.
