In its continuous effort to promote sustainable practices and strengthen community engagement, the Universidad de Manila (UDM) conducted a preliminary meeting with officials of Barangay 659-A on October 17, 2025, to discuss collaborative initiatives in support of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: Clean Water and Sanitation.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Rhodora Bernal, Director of UDM Gender and Development; Mr. Alistair B. Selorio, Director of UDM NSTP; and Hon. Robert A. Bunda, Barangay Chairman. Together, they explored possible joint projects under the theme “Water Management Educational Opportunities: Drop by Drop: Building a Culture of Safe Water Use.”
This initial coordination aimed to identify priority needs and develop educational activities that promote efficient water management, sanitation awareness, and responsible household practices within the barangay. The discussions focused on empowering residents to make informed decisions on safe water use and to implement simple yet effective conservation techniques in their daily lives.
During the meeting, Dr. Bernal presented a proposed community seminar titled “Drop by Drop: Building a Culture of Safe Water Use.” The program is envisioned as a participatory and hands-on learning experience that combines practical demonstrations, expert discussions, and community sharing sessions. It will highlight topics such as water conservation, safe sanitation, public health awareness, and sustainable household practices, all aimed at fostering a deeper appreciation of clean water as a shared community resource.
Aligned with this initiative, UDM also aims to provide educational opportunities for local communities to learn about good water management. By equipping residents with the right knowledge and practices, the university hopes to build a culture of accountability and care toward the environment, ensuring the sustainable use of water resources for generations to come.
Both the Universidad de Manila and Barangay 659-A expressed optimism about the collaboration’s potential to create long-term impact. By working together, they aim to empower residents to adopt safer and more sustainable water-use habits, helping to mitigate health risks while conserving valuable water resources.
This partnership between the Universidad de Manila and Barangay 659-A stands as a model of local action supporting global advocacy—underscoring how education and collaboration can drive meaningful progress toward sustainable development.
