The Supreme Student Government (SSG) of Universidad De Manila (UDM) spearheaded a humanitarian initiative titled “HANDOG DUGO, HANDOG BUHAY”, a university-wide mass bloodletting activity held at the UDM Main Campus. Students from various districts of Manila responded to the call, donating blood in the spirit of solidarity and public service.
While often associated only with health, the program contributes strongly to SDG 1 – No Poverty. Access to safe blood is not merely a medical concern but also a financial protection measure, as families facing emergencies frequently incur high hospital costs due to lack of available supply. By voluntarily donating blood, UDM students help reduce the economic burden of medical crises among vulnerable communities.
The activity also reinforced the culture of youth volunteerism within the university. SSG officers, alongside student donors and support volunteers, worked together to ensure orderly screening, medical supervision, and post-donation care.
Through “Handog Dugo, Handog Buhay”, UDM demonstrated that poverty reduction is not limited to scholarships or financial aid—it also includes health security and accessible lifesaving resources made possible through collective action.
