On June 21, 2024, the Supreme Student Government (SSG) of Universidad De Manila (UDM) extended its community outreach beyond the campus by conducting a Medical and Dental Mission in a selected barangay in Manila. The initiative gathered SSG student volunteers, barangay workers, and local residents in a collaborative effort to deliver free health services to individuals and families with limited access to medical care.
The mission provided basic medical consultations, dental checkups, health education, and relief support, particularly prioritizing residents who had previously been affected by fire incidents or typhoons—disasters that often push vulnerable households deeper into poverty.
Aligned with SDG 1 – No Poverty, the initiative demonstrated that healthcare accessibility is a key poverty intervention strategy. Many low-income families postpone or avoid treatment due to cost barriers, leading to worsening conditions that affect their ability to work, study, or recover. By bringing medical services directly to the community, UDM helped ease both physical suffering and financial strain.
The event reflected the strong bayanihan spirit among UDM students, proving that public education is not confined to classrooms—it lives through service. Through this mission, UDM empowered its students not only as scholars, but as proactive agents of social care.
