UDM Sportsfest 2025 Opens with a Celebration of Unity, Excellence, and Merlion Pride

The Universidad de Manila (UDM) officially opened its much-anticipated UDM Sportsfest 2025 on March 17, 2025, marking a spirited celebration of unity, sportsmanship, and student excellence across the university community.

The opening ceremony was graced by University President Dr. Ma. Felma Carlos-Tria, together with the Vice Presidents, faculty members, and students, who came together in support of the student-athletes. In her inspiring address, Dr. Tria highlighted the importance of sports in promoting discipline, teamwork, and leadership, underscoring that every Merlion embodies resilience, integrity, and unity.

The Sportsfest serves as a dynamic platform for students to showcase their athletic talents and leadership skills while fostering camaraderie, discipline, and school spirit. Complementing this, the UDM Student Union played a vital role in organizing and supporting social activities that accompanied the event—strengthening friendships, enhancing student engagement, and promoting a vibrant and inclusive campus culture.

Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth, the Sportsfest emphasizes holistic student development by nurturing perseverance, collaboration, and excellence—qualities essential to productive citizenship and future employability. Likewise, it supports SDG 16 – Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, as it encourages inclusivity, cooperation, and harmony within the university community.

The program concluded with resounding cheers and a parade of colors, as students proudly represented their respective colleges. The entire UDM community looks forward to a season of healthy competition, unity, and shared pride—celebrating not only athletic achievements but also the spirit of Merlion excellence and solidarity.
