In a unified effort to strengthen health education and preventive action, the UDM Health Services, in collaboration with the Manila Social Hygiene Clinic, UDM Bahaghari, and UDM Gender and Development (GAD), conducted a seminar titled “Link Between STD and HIV” on May 6, 2025, at Palma Hall, Universidad de Manila.
The seminar gathered students, faculty, and staff for a critical discussion on the interconnected risks of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and HIV, emphasizing how untreated STDs significantly increase vulnerability to HIV infection. Resource speakers addressed key topics such as:
- Modes of transmission and risk behaviors
- Symptoms and early detection strategies
- Prevention and protection methods, including condoms and PrEP
- Availability of free testing and treatment services within Manila’s public health network
Aligned with SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being, the initiative highlighted the importance of sexual health literacy as a tool for self-protection and community resilience. The presence of advocacy groups like UDM Bahaghari and UDM GAD ensured an inclusive and non-stigmatizing environment, encouraging open dialogue across genders and identities.
By demystifying sensitive topics and promoting responsible decision-making, UDM reinforced that awareness is protection, and education is empowerment.
