UDM Nursing Students Lead Vector-Borne Disease Awareness Drive in Sta. Ana Community
In a continued effort to strengthen public health education at the grassroots level, the CHS Nursing Student Council of Universidad De Manila (UDM) conducted the CHS Community Health Program: Vector-Borne Diseases on October 1, 2025, at Barangay 790, Zone 86, Sta. Ana, Manila.
Aligned with SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being, the outreach focused on one of the country’s most urgent health threats — dengue and other vector-borne illnesses. Nursing students, guided by CHS faculty and staff, conducted house-to-house health education sessions, directly engaging residents in meaningful conversations on causes, symptoms, and practical prevention strategies.
Key messages emphasized during the activity included:
- Maintaining a clean household environment
- Eliminating stagnant water to prevent mosquito breeding
- Recognizing early warning signs of infection
- Seeking immediate medical care to prevent complications
The hands-on approach ensured that information reached households often overlooked by formal campaigns, reinforcing that health promotion is most effective when done face-to-face and community-centered.
The initiative not only raised awareness but also inspired empowerment, reminding residents that disease prevention begins at home — and that students, even before graduation, can serve as lifesavers in their communities.
