The officers of the Universidad de Manila (UDM) College of Health Sciences Philippine Nursing Student Association (PNSA) have taken a proactive role in advancing sustainability and environmental responsibility by launching a campaign centered on conscious water usage. Recognizing the significance of clean water as a vital resource, the association spearheaded a series of awareness drives to remind students, faculty, and staff of their shared responsibility to use water wisely and efficiently.
Spearheaded under the guidance of Dr. Rhodora Bernal, Director of UDM Gender and Development, and Mr. Alistair B. Selorio, Director of UDM NSTP, the campaign seeks to actively promote conscious water usage on campus and foster a culture of mindfulness toward water conservation. The initiative underscores that small, consistent actions—such as turning off taps properly, reporting leaks, and avoiding unnecessary water waste—can lead to meaningful environmental impact.
To reinforce this advocacy, the PNSA officers strategically placed informative signages across the university premises. These visual reminders, installed near drinking fountains, wash areas, and water dispensers, highlight practical tips for conserving water and maintaining clean sanitation practices. Proper usage guidelines for water dispensers were also displayed to ensure responsible handling by students and university personnel. By situating these signages in high-traffic areas, the campaign ensures that the message of sustainability reaches a broad audience and becomes integrated into the university’s daily routines.
This initiative is closely aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, which emphasizes ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water for all. By leading this campaign, the UDM PNSA demonstrates how student organizations can take meaningful steps toward environmental stewardship, contributing to a healthier and more sustainable campus community.
Beyond promoting conservation, this effort instills in nursing students a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness between health, sanitation, and environmental care. Through their example, UDM’s future nursing professionals embody the values of responsible leadership, community engagement, and sustainability advocacy—principles that extend beyond the classroom and into the broader community.
