In a united effort to promote sexual health awareness and empower the academic community, the Universidad de Manila (UDM) Health Services, in partnership with the Manila Social Hygiene Clinic, UDM Gender and Development (GAD), and UDM Bahaghari, conducted an educational seminar titled “Link Between STD and HIV” on May 6, 2025, at the Universidad de Manila.
The seminar aimed to inform and engage students, faculty, and staff on the critical issues surrounding Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) and the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Discussions centered on the causes, risk factors, modes of transmission, prevention strategies, and available treatment options, emphasizing the vital role of education and awareness in maintaining a healthy community.
Through expert-led presentations and interactive sessions, participants gained valuable insights into the interconnectedness of STDs and HIV, learning how early detection, responsible behavior, and supportive healthcare practices can significantly prevent infection and reduce stigma.
This initiative reflects UDM’s unwavering commitment to inclusive, science-based, and proactive health education. It also showcases the strength of collaboration between the university, local health institutions, and advocacy groups in advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—specifically:
- SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being
- SDG 5 – Gender Equality
- SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals
By fostering awareness and encouraging responsible action, UDM continues to create a safe, informed, and health-conscious campus environment—empowering students to become advocates for wellness and equality in society.
