In line with the commitment to empower women and promote inclusive innovation, Universidad de Manila (UDM) hosted the SHE++ Masterclass, a capability-building initiative under the Philippine Development (PhilDev) Foundation, in partnership with Wells Fargo Philippines. The event, held at UDM Palma Hall and Computer Laboratory, brought together 116 students for an immersive learning experience that combined education, technology, and empowerment.
The SHE++ Empowerment Program for Women in Tech serves as a flagship example of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 17 – Partnerships for the Goals in action. Through the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed between PhilDev, Wells Fargo, and UDM, this initiative exemplifies how collaboration among the academic, private, and development sectors can advance sustainable growth. By sharing expertise, networks, and resources, these institutions have created a dynamic platform that nurtures women’s participation in the technology sector and enhances their readiness for the future workforce.
Beyond partnerships, the program contributes meaningfully to several other SDGs. It advances SDG 4 – Quality Education by providing accessible, high-quality training to young women, and strengthens SDG 5 – Gender Equality by empowering them to overcome barriers in the male-dominated tech industry. Furthermore, by cultivating future-ready innovators and technopreneurs, the program supports SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth and SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, fostering a more inclusive and resilient digital economy.
A key highlight of the masterclass was the cross-sectoral dialogue on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), where participants, industry professionals, and development partners engaged in discussions about the role of education, gender equality, and innovation in achieving national and global sustainability targets. The dialogue emphasized how collaborative action between universities, private institutions, and government or NGOs can accelerate progress toward achieving the SDGs.
Through the SHE++ Masterclass, UDM reaffirmed its dedication to shaping a future where education, equality, and innovation converge to create empowered individuals and sustainable communities.
