On April 28, 2025, the Universidad de Manila – College of Criminal Justice (UDM-CCJ) interns participated in a hands-on firefighting basics training facilitated by the Bureau of Fire Protection – NCR Intramuros Fire Station. This immersive activity aimed to equip criminology on-the-job trainees with essential knowledge and practical techniques in firefighting and emergency response.
The training introduced the interns to the fundamentals of fire safety, prevention, and suppression. Guided by experienced BFP officers, the participants learned about the proper use of firefighting equipment, fire behavior, and effective response strategies during fire emergencies. The hands-on component allowed the OJTs to experience the discipline, coordination, and courage required in real-life fire situations.
Anchored on the BFP’s advocacy, “Pilipino ako, Bumberong tamang bihis, Bumberong tapat sa serbisyo, Modelo sa paglilingkod,” the session instilled in the interns the values of integrity, bravery, and public service—qualities essential for future law enforcers and protectors of the community.
This initiative supports SDG 16 – Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions by promoting safety awareness, resilience, and civic responsibility among criminology students. It also strengthens the collaboration between UDM and BFP-NCR in developing competent and service-oriented future public safety officers.
