Criminology interns from Universidad de Manila (UDM) marked the successful completion of their On-the-Job Training (OJT) at the Manila City Jail Male Dormitory through a Culminating Activity held on January 12, 2024. The event recognized the students’ commitment to understanding the Corrections pillar of the Criminal Justice System and their growing passion for public service.
Under the leadership of Dr. Joaquin De Castro II, OJT Leadperson, the internship program gave students first-hand experience in correctional administration and operations, offering a glimpse into a potential career path in the field of Corrections. Dr. De Castro commended the interns for their dedication and professionalism throughout the training.
JCINSP David M. Jambalos, Chief of the Records Unit, lauded the interns for their enthusiasm and strong sense of duty during their stay. Following the recommendation of JSINSP Edwin O. Esternon, Chief of HRMDU, the interns were officially certified for the completion of their OJT, bringing them a step closer to fulfilling their goal of becoming ethical and compassionate public servants.
Throughout the internship, the interns explored the multifaceted roles of Jail Officers, participated in nine (9) lectures on correction administration, and underwent tactical training designed to enhance their competence and understanding of correctional facility management.
This culminating activity not only highlighted the interns’ achievements but also reaffirmed UDM’s mission to nurture future criminologists who will uphold justice, discipline, and integrity in service to the nation—values deeply aligned with SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
